Tamaara Hocker - Lead Teacher
Tamaara started with Refuge when she was assigned our Early Learning Center as her practicum in 2019 while obtaining her associate degree in Early Childhood Education from Wake Technical Community College. Later that year, after her practicum ended, we were thrilled to welcome her back as part of our staff.
Her favorite part about being a teacher is getting to witness the children grow and learn new skills throughout the year.
There are a couple things you may not know about Tamaara. She loves makeup and originally wanted to become a makeup artist. Also, her name means “Palm Tree” in Hebrew.
Mariana Veloso - Assistant Teacher
Mariana, originally from Brazil, joined our team in the summer of 2024. She is currently pursuing a degree in Pedagogy. She is dedicated to creating engaging, supportive environments where students can thrive.
Beyond her studies, Mariana is an accomplished singer and dancer. She finds joy in sharing her talents with others, often incorporating music and movement into her teaching methods. Her creativity and enthusiasm for both learning and the arts make her a dynamic presence in any educational setting.
Mariana is married to Victor, and together they are dedicated to supporting each other’s passions and endeavors.
